Thrifty finds

In a unusual move, I ended up going shopping during my lunch hour yesterday. Mainly to get away from my computer screen and e-mail but really to get some fresh air.  I had no intention of purchasing anything, but I ended up popping into the local Oxfam Bookshop and I picked up a couple of items I found.

PostcardsandMaps01

These old black and white postcards I discovered these after flicking through a box full of random postcards. Two of them feature places I have visited and the others I just liked the pictures. The two postcards of Harlech Castle, a holiday destination when I was very young,  I want to frame together and hang in the house.

I have also been hunting for old maps for a while, but nothing has really taken my fancy. I am searching for a couple of old maps that have significance to me or my husband so I can frame  them  to create bespoke wall art for our house (an idea I picked out of  Thrifty Chic: Interior Style on a Shoestring by Liz Bauwens and Alexandra Campbell).

These weren’t exactly what I was looking for, but I was taken by the map’s illustrated cover especially for the Sutton & Epsom map as I work in Epsom.

Mirrors your heart

For a while I have been collecting together images from magazines and combining them on postcards to create new themes, inspirational ideas or messages.

The initial idea came from a blog I love called Record the Day by Lobster and Swan (aka Jeska Hearne).  From her idea I started something I call Postcard Scrapbooking, where I collect and combine of things scraped from magazines.

Mirrors your Heart

I got the inspiration for the above when thinking about the phrase ‘your face can tell a story’.  Emotions get etched on to your face, creating a canvas for the story of your life.   Beauty is only skin deep and it is really what is in your heart that makes you beautiful.

A collection of some of my previous Postcard Scrapbooking is on Flickr.

Day Twenty Eight – Coffee culture

We have got into the habit of finding a coffee shop and enjoying an afternoon pick-me up. We discovered that our local Pret A Manger has re-opened after a big refurb. And what a refurb. I couldn’t resist but take some piccies while we enjoyed our drinks. I simply love the use of old fashioned materials and equipment that they have used to decorate the walls.
