August Break Day 31 – Fungi finds

Today is the final day of The August Break 2011, as well as the end of my summer holiday.  It’s be a lovely journey of daily photographing my every day and sharing with others through Flickr.  Thank you to everyone who has stopped by and been kind enough to leave a kind word or two.

Fungi 01

Tomorrow is the beginning of September and it already feels like that autumn is in the air.

Fungi 02

Nestling beneath the bushes and the undergrowth, I discovered this wild mushroom.   I don’t think I will even attempt to identify what sort of mushroom this is or even think about eating it.

August Break Day 29 – Looking a gift horse

Afternoon tea for three at Hatchlands Park, followed by a stroll around some of the extensive parkland.

Foal 01

We discovered this darling little foal in one of adjoining fields.  She sheltered behind her mother for most of our visit.

August Break Day 26 – Making honeycomb

What a dreary and wet day.  It’s been just so depressing. So I thought I would cheer myself up by making some Honeycomb Toffee (sometimes called Hokey Pokey in Cornwall).

Honeycomb 01

I have never made Honeycomb before, but seeing it made in The Great British Bake Off on BBC One this week inspired me to have a go.

Honeycomb 02

I wouldn’t have attempted this recipe without recently being given this sugar and jam thermometer from my Dad.

Honeycomb 03

There are a number of recipes available on the internet for making Honeycomb Toffee, I eventually picked this one from Waitroses.  Or you could pick Nigella Lawson’s Hokey Pokey, just for the fab recipe name.

Honeycomb 04

To liven up the finish honeycomb I dipped them in melted chocolate.   What have you been doing this Friday?

August Break Day 25 – Afternoon tea

Summer isn’t summer without a cream tea.

Afternoon tea

We drove out to Clandon Park this afternoon to enjoy afternoon tea in their lovely restaurant.

August Break Day 24 – On the river

We decided to be a tourists in our local town by taking a cruise on the River Wey.  Our journey started from Guildford Boat House towards south-west(-ish) towards Goldming.

On the river 02

As a family we have, in previous years, hired a canal boat and explored the Wey Navigation all the way up to the Thames. But we haven’t explored this section of the navigation.
