Sunny faces

To compensate for the lack of sunny weather we have been having, I thought I would share these sunny Michaelmas daisies.

With their bright, sunny faces, I hope these flowers make for a cheery afternoon.

In the pink

Pink is such a pretty colour. Hope you enjoy this collage of pretty pink flowers on this Bank Holiday Monday.

In the pink

A bright but windy start to the day. We managed to make into the garden to do a bit of clearing up and to attempt to do a bit of gardening. I have to admit we are not the world’s best gardeners, and we tend to leave things to nature.

Rhododendron 01

I think my flurry of garden was inspired by these beautiful rhododendrons which we saw yesterday in the grounds of Petworth.

Trying to unwind

Saturday has been a blowy start to the bank holiday weekend with low white cloud covering the sky like unwanted duvet.  There was not even the hint or promise of the sunshine or the blue skies we experienced in April.

After a quick trip to a local electrical store to purchase a replacement hairdryer, we drove down to Petworth House in West Sussex.

Petworth 02

Petworth House is grand C17th mansion set in extensive and beautiful deer park.  The mansion houses the National Trust’s largest painting and sculpture collections including works by Turner, Blake and Reynolds.

Petworth 01

Petworth collection boasts 19 oil paintings by Turner, who was commissioned to paint views of the house and the deer park in the early part of the C19th.

After a visiting the house, we wondered around some of the surrounding parkland, though were not luckily enough to see any of the deer up close.

Light and sparkle

As the weather has changed a little for the worse (just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend), I thought I would share this combination of photographs from my recent visit to Polesden Lacey.

Light and sparkle

Light, bright, with rich golden colours.  I hope you all have a lovely weekend.

It all hinges on

It’s been changeable weather today. We started with beautiful sunshine, but the strong winds have blown in the rain clouds from the west and we have intermitted showers.

With little time to myself, in-between preparing Sunday lunch and clearing up, I grabbed my camera and popped into the garden to see if I could find something to capture.

All hinges on 01

Rather than capturing pretty flowers and plants that are flourishing at the moment, I wanted to capture some of the decaying elements of the garden.

All hinges on 02

Cobwebs, rust and rotting wood.
