Altered poppies

Altered poppies

The Guildford Castle gardens are a riot of colour at the moment, with a plethora of poppies in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I.

The image has been altered (accidentally) to give the impression of an illustration rather than a traditional photograph.

Bluebells and Azaleas

A bright but chilly start to the May Bank Holiday weekend with temperatures only just above freezing. After seeing many inspirational photos recently from friends of the bluebell displays around the South East, it prompted me to drive over to the National Trust’s Winkworth Arboretum with my camera.

Probably just in time too, as the helpful lady at the entrance was saying that this was probably the last weekend for the bluebells.

There were plenty of bluebells still to see and admire.  Often the camera just doesn’t do the carpet of blue justice.

The blooming azaleas were  stunningly magnificent in their white and pinks.

Vintage Day at Oxfam

With little chance of a proper summers day, we went browsing round the shops.   A constant threat of rain or being blown across the street, we stuck close to our usual haunts.  Of course we couldn’t miss the opportunity to pop into our local Oxfam who were holding a Vintage Day.   This lovely little shop had been changed into a treasure trove of vintage (themed) gems.  Clothes, ephemera and home-ware, there was some much to choose from.

I was tempted by a beautiful burgundy leather diary from 1960’s or  an old-fashioned cricket bat which were attractively displayed in the entrance of the shop.  But eventually, after endless browsing, it was these buttons that took my fancy.

Refreshing

Refreshing

It feels like an age since I last picked up my camera and blogged.  I have to admit (to something I am not proud of) this has been the first weekend since February which has actually felt like a weekend, were I haven’t been working or checking emails (a relief to my poor husband).  My work-life balance has been horrifically out of kilter.  New job, new responsibilities.  There has been something refreshing about this weekend. Normal.

I am beginning to see a food theme with my photographs, which I suspect is probably having a negative impact on my waist line.

Love

Love #2013PAD

Last day of January, hasn’t time really flown this year?  With February just a stone’s throw away, is “love” on anyone’s mind?

I am looking for creative ideas for Valentine’s Day that won’t cost the earth.  Perhaps a home-made card and gift for my patient husband.  Have you got any good ideas you could share with me?

I really need to think this through and ensure I leave myself with enough time to complete the task I seem to have set myself.

Running late

Running late #2013PAD

Planned on doing only about hours work this evening, but I have over run slightly and  probably should have finished ages ago.

Oh well, there is a little time left to relax and chill out before I go to bed. Perhaps catch up with something on the V+ box.
