Messing about on the river

We decided to make full use of our National Trust Membership this morning with a visit to Dapdune Wharf and later visiting the Devil’s Punch Bowl near Hindhead.

Dapdune Wharf sits on the banks of the Wey Navigation, a river made navigable to barges in c17th, and was responsible for the construction of some of the Wey Navigation barges.

Barges transported everything from timber to coal and flour up the River Wey to London via the Thames.

Beautiful old timber and brick buildings still stand in this tranquil spot.
